Hello

Hi Everyone

My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year. It was found through checks for heart surgery and due to his heart failure no treatment could be offered and was put into palliative care. He's had a few ups and downs and was in hospital during the week for blood transfusions. His palliative nurse said he's moved on a stage.  I don't know what this means ...

  • Hello and welcome to Cancer Chat, Scotslass1.

I'm sorry to hear that your dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer, and has since been moved to palliative care. It sounds like he's had a tough few days, with needing transfusions. I do hope he's feeling more comfortable now?

I think what his palliative nurse might be referring to is the stage of cancer he's been diagnosed as being at. Staging is a way of describing the size of a cancer and how far it has grown. The only way to know for sure though is to talk to your dad's medical team and to check what they're referring to.

You could also talk to our team of cancer nurses, if you'd like to ask them any questions about your dad's care. They're available on freephone 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, if you want to ask them anything on this.

I hope you can get the answers you need Scotslass1 - do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

    Helen
