  • Hello kevin03,

    And welcome to our forum!

I’m sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly at the moment and can appreciate why you are worried. It might be a good idea to give our team of cancer nurses a call and ask all these questions? They are available on this number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Also, we have some information on coping with cancer on our web page I'd like to share with you: www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../

I hope this will be helpful kevin03.

  • Hello Kevin,

Thanks for posting a question. I am one of the nurses and our moderator wondered if we might be able to suggest why you are experiencing symptoms again.

I am sorry to learn that you are currently feeling unwell. To be honest I am unsure how helpful I can be. This is because I do not know the full details of your situation. For example, when you finished treatment, how you responded to it and if you are taking any medication other than painkillers. I do appreciate that it is not always easy to get hold of your team at the hospital, but they are best placed to answer your questions and really the only people who can reassure you that things are going OK. If you have a specialist nurse they may be easier to get hold of. If you telephone and leave a message I am sure they will get back to you, although it may not be right away.

Fatigue is relatively common during and after radiotherapy treatment. It usually gradually gets better after the treatment has stopped, but it can take many months. Other causes of fatigue are anxiety and depression, anaemia, pain and discomfort, particularly if it has an impact on sleeping and some medications. Sometimes it is difficult to pinpoint the cause of fatigue. As you have pain exercise is probably difficult but light exercise can improve fatigue in some cases.

The sweats could be due to the pain medication that you are taking. Although it does not occur in everyone, sweats are a known side effect of morphine.  But they could also be due to hormonal imbalances or infections.

Do contact your medical team as they can make an assessment of your symptoms.

I am sorry that I cannot be of specific help. But if you have any other questions you are welcome to get back to us. If you would like to telephone our freephone number is 0808 800 4040.

    Kind regards,

    Jean
