Has any one found themselves in this situation?

I was diagnosed in 2007 with HER2 3+Cancer  With liver and bone metastasis, I had a lumpectomy and 4 lymph nodes removed, chemotherapy and have been on herceptin and pemidranate/denosumab by injection every three weeks and tamoxifen daily for the last ten years, I was told by my then oncology consultant that I would be on these drugs for life or for as long as they are work, In September 2012 I was prescribed ramipril 1.25gm twice a day for my heart as I had a mild left ventricular diastolic dysfunction ( which was probably caused by the herceptin) since then I have been monitored by the Royal Brompton hospital who have said that my most recent scan shows that my LV remains stable and all my other heart functions are normal   They will be repeating the scans in march 2017.  My oncology consultant has recently retired and my new oncology consultant has said they are now prescribing my denosenab three monthly (instead of three weekly) and they are taking me off the herceptin in July as long as the scans they have arranged for me are clear/stable, their reason is that they have no evidence that herceptin works after 10 years. As you can imagine I am  very anxious. Has anybody else found themselves in the same situation or is anybody post10 years on herceptin?

  • Wow that's not easy for you to cope with st seventeen! There is help out there and you must take what ever help you can get. Don't think for one minute that you can take all that on. You can contact McMillan and I'm sure there are many other services out there to help at home if/when it's needed. Take care x
