Bladder cancer bcg treatment

Hi everyone..bcg treatment starts tomorrow. Huge dilemma still..should I or shouldn't I? Has anyone got any experience of this to share? I've researched myself silly and really support the idea of immunotherapy. I hate the idea of not following through but have many concerns still..thanxx

  • Hi I have had bladder cancer since 2013 and so far I have had chemo and radio and several

Opp's and they said it was grey, But now 2017 a fornight ago they told me it was aggressive

and they want to know if they can take it out but last weeks letter said that I have to go

for ct scan on chest and stomach why ? for B c g as they keep telling me I did not want it out

but I also said if it's got to come out then so be it , Can you enlighten me thank's

sorry I can't help you myself.

  • Hi Bodger- As far as I understand BCG vaccine is given as immunotherapy after removal of tumours from the bladder. The type and stage of your bladder cancer and whether it has invaded the muscle wall makes the difference between the vaccine and removal of bladder which is perhaps why you are having further investigations? My advice to you would be .....be very clear about your options when you see your consultant next. Best of luck and thank you for replying

  • Hi I had a noninvasive tumour removed from my bladder February 2016. I had a screening/cystoscopy in April then BCG started some weeks later. The first treatment was simple and pain free at the time but the side effects, flu symptoms, badder infection were very tiring. The second treatment was still a bit uncomfortable but not as bad and after effects only lasted for 24 hours. Since then after a treatment I write off the next day as I'm usually ver tired but after that I get my strength back very quickly. At present I'm on a 14 week break from treatment which resumes with a cystoscopy in early April and then more BCG 7 weeks later. I should say I'm a 78 year man who leads a very active life walking 2 - 3 miles a day and play golf about 4 times a week. The treatment I've been having other than the first 6 weeks after TURBS and the first BCG session has not interfered with my recreational activities. I hope this post can help you to come to a decision regarding your treatment.
