Had operation now facing chemo

Hi. Although my name is Tracy I am a male my parents must have had a strange sense of humour because I have 4 sisters . I'm 59 and was diagnosed with bowel cancer just over 2 months ago. I have had the operation and had the right hand side of my bowel removed thankfully no stomer bag required. I find it difficult to keep a happy face on but have managed to up until now. I have two beautiful granddaughters and an amazing wife and daughter so it's a must for me to keep positive for them. I start chemo on the 28th of December and don't really know what to expect. Would love to chat to someone in a similar situation and exchange some mutually helpful chat.

  • Hi Tracy. I feel your pain. I too, have cancer. Found cancer in me 2 years ago (4th stage lung/ brain). After radiation, surgery, Cyberknife surgery and now taking meds (tarseva) the small amounts I had are either getting smaller or not changing. I've never really been in physical pain but have experienced plenty of mental pain from this. I am married and have 4 grandkids ranging from 5 to 16. Im 56. The meds I take leave me with lots of fatigue, sometimes sleeping 15-19 hours a day. My quality of life is at a 2-3 on a scale of 1-10. Not good for someone that was very active but I'm alive. I too, would like some answers as to what lies ahead. It used to be that 4th stage was the end of the road but research has come a long way. I really feel some doctors are in this to make a difference rather than make money for themselves. Sorry if I high jacked this thread but when I read your post, it kinda hit home. I truly feel your pain and hope you find the answers you're looking for.

  • Hi! So you started chemo yesterday? Ouch. You already had chemo before, right? Correct if I'm wrong. I'm 20 and I have leukemia stage 2. I already did chemo and to be honest, it ain't that fun...There's a lot of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, physical pain, sore mouth, loss of appetite or weight gain, fatigue, constipation, diarrhea, dehydration, hair loss obviously, pain at the injection site as well as allergic reactions and many more. :/
I was constantly sick during my chemo month, vomiting all the time, staying in bed all time, weak and losing my hair and weight and physical pain (articulations, stomach pain and extremes headaches) Of course, you might have different side effects cuz everything depends on the person right? I hope you'll be fine and that your family will support you in any time! :3
