Hi

Just introducing myself to the forum. I have not been diagnosed with cancer but my Dad and all of his 3 brothers have had/Has Waldenstroms Lymphoma and brain tumours and apart from my youngest uncle have died from the same cancers. He has Waldenstroms and has been keeping up with blood tests but has recently been given the bad news that he has aggressive brain tumours. There are too many to be coincidence therefore I am concerned for the whole family. Genetically and hereditory. I am trying to get the researchers in Birmingham to include my family in their research in the hope that we can determine e the risk factors for all.

Has anyone else had similar experiences,  hereditory factors or Waldenstroms linked to brain tumours. My sister had asevere stroke last year and I am wondering whether that is linked to the thickening of the blood in the brain caused by Waldenstroms.

  • Hi there, welcome to the forum, but sorry to hear about the members of your family having this condition. I don't know anything about it, but thought I would send you a brief message to let you know that we do read the posts. Sometimes if we know little or nothing about it, we don't always respond which I sometimes wonder if we should at least acknowledge the post. In any case, me responding to your post will bring it back up to the front page where hopefully, someone who knows something about it will answer your post. I would also suggest you post a question in the section, "Ask the Nurses" as they may be able to shed some light on this for you. Or, you can phone the nurses during regular business hours at the number displayed at the borrom of this screen.

    Take care.

  • Hi, I do not have a family with your family cancer, but I do think that some family cancers risk are higher than others, and of course we know some are hereditory. My Mother, her sister and 2 brother and her mother all had cancer and died from it. Both my children have been diagnosed having cancer this year,(hopefully all will go well for them, fingers cross ) so we must be a high risk family, which would be interserting to look into. I do know that the hospital has taken a family history of cancer in the family, so that my grandchildren will be watch over in the years to come hopefully.

Hope you find out about your family if it genetically or hereditory.
