My Dad

This last summer my Dad, who's 54, was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal and stomach cancer. It's been really hard on my family and also on me because I had to leave for my sophomore year in college, which makes it even harder to not be home. I was wondering if there were any other college students who were going through the same thing. Thanks

  • hi rebeccaosully,  that must be hard for you, there are many people on here that can offer support and are in similar situations, im sure it wont be long before you find  strength from others...take care of yourself.

  • Hi Rebecca,

I'm in a very similar situation to you - my Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer which has spread to the stomach and hip joint. I'm doing my PhD in Austria, whilst my family are back in Scotland. I've found it increasingly hard to concentrate and apply myself at work, the news hasn't even properly sunk in yet that in the coming months I will lose my Dad, my hero. I have been trying to get back and visit once per month and each time it is just worse, he is less and less like my Dad. He is currenlty mid way through a 9 week block of chemo that will hopefully shrink the tumours and maybe give him up to 1 year. We will find out right around Christmas the outcome of the chemo after all the scans are repeated.

I just want to you to know that I am here, if you ever want to chat, and I'm sure there are many others who are facing similar situations to both you and I that will also offer all their support.

    Stay strong,

    Nicole x

  • Thank you so much, Nicole. I'm here for you too if you ever need to talk. How have you come to terms with the situation?
