Recently diagnosed with oesophageal cancer

I am finding difficult to talk about it, confused and scared.

  • Hi midget88 and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis and that you're finding it difficult to talk about it at the moment but I'm glad you've joined the community as many of our members know how difficult it can be and I'm sure they will be along soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you. I have also found some information about talking about cancer on our website here if you would like to have a look.

I'm not sure how much you know about oesophageal cancer but again we have some information about it here if you want to know more about it as some members find it quite helpful to know what they have and what to expect on their cancer journey.

We're here for you if you need us midget88.

    All the best,

  • Hi Midget,

Welcome to the forum. Feeling confused and scared is a pretty common reaction on being diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer. Information on the Internet doesn't help much either - much of it is out of date or simply wrong. I remember reading online somewhere that most people with OC were obese, smokers and heavy drinkers - none of which applied to me!

If there's anything you'd like to ask about the experience of living with OC, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • I have been told surgery is possible, with chemo prior. Think this is the best option so starting chemo next week. Plan is two cycles . then PET scan two weeks after chemo finishes, then surgery 4 weeks after that. Just hoping chemo is effective.
