I'm very worried

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 and had to have a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I had various complications afterwards. I was given the all clear in May of this year. Last week I noticed a lump in the same breast. I went to my GP who said she could feel the lump and that it was probably the cancer back. She is writing to the hospital for a referral but says it can take 2-3 weeks before I get an appointment so I phoned up the hospital myself and the nurse said it would take 2 weeks. I'm a bit concerned that I am having to wait so long. I now have pain under my armpit and down the side and right down my arm. My husband thinks I should phone and ask to speak to a consultant but I'm not so sure. I'm worried it has spread. I lost my youngest brother to cancer in May of this year :(

  • Hi allie007. I'm afraid I have no experience of breast cancer and wouldn't presume to know anything about what might be going on or how you are feeling. I am hoping so much that it's not as you fear. Just wanted to show my support. As regards phoning up consultant, if you think you will regret not phoning then it's worth a try. The secretaries will help you if they can to speak to consultants and if they can't, unfortunately you will have to wait. My own experience is that every next appointment took 2-3 weeks so do understand. But at least you will know you tried. Follow your gut tho on this xx really hope all works out ok xxx
  • Thank you for your support Emmierex. I'm going to sleep on phoning the consultant and decide tomorrow. Yes from past experience it always takes 2-3 weeks between appointments so I understand that. :)
