Hello Flossy. I read recently in my local area about a young woman (aged about 30) who had been through similar. After losing her Mum, both Grandmas and an Aunt to breast cancer she decided to take advantage of what modern medicine could offer given that a lot of it was not available to her older relatives when they needed it. She has spent a couple of years going through surgery, chemo and radiotherapy and is now boxing would you believe. She appeared in our local paper and looks like a normal healthy young athlete. I find it unbelievable but it shows what can be achieved these days.
I have recently been diagnosed with a blood cancer and am busy finding out what will be involved. Of course I'm scared but I can't let that stop me making use of what's available. I read on another site about someone with a similar condition to mine about how scared she was facing her first chemo but the way she wrote about it was so funny, I think she was a bit ashamed of how scared she had been and wanted to release it all by laughing about her fear. I'm sure you will get the info. you need either from this site or others about what to expect and what any side effects will be. I wish you all the luck in the world, you are very brave, good on you kid. Bill G.,
Hey Flossy,
The unknown is always scary. I remember feeling like you. I had cisplatin alongside radiotherapy and brachytherapy a couple of months ago to treat cervical cancer.
Everybody is different and reacts differently to it.
I felt very sick throughout the treatment & my tastes changed so i found eating hard but i was lucky as i was only actually sick the first week. If you keep your nursing team informed they can change your antisickness meds for you.
I was also very tired. Just take each day as it comes hun & be kind to yourself. Take it easy.
Try to keep well hydrated.
I finished my treatment in july & i now suffer with fatigue as an after effect, but slowly slowly each week seems a lil better than the last and to be honest, im happy with any of the side effects now the sicky feeling has gone.
I wish you lots of love & luck. It'll be over before you know it & you'll be fighting fit before you know it. Xxx
