25 yr old brother choriocarcinoma diagnosis

Hello everyone!

im new to the forum although I've been reading lots before signing up.

My brother was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the start of summer this year. I would say it was a shock diagnoses but I suppose cancer is always a shock.. I'll share my/his story;

He was admitted to hospital after becoming poorly with suspected pneumonia after antibiotics didn't clear his 'chest infection' blood tests and scans showed that he had a mass in his testicle that had spread to his lungs. He was immediately started on BEP chemotherapy and had his testicle removed. The Metastases in his lungs were responsive to treatment, although a few small nodules remained and a couple of his lymph nodes were unchanged. 2 months after treatment, at one of his check ups, they noticed that his blood tumor markers in his blood had shot back up again so they gave him a scan, only to discover that the lesions in his lungs had started to return. They also found a lesion in his brain.

Hes currently receiving TIP treatment at a specialised centre and it's all just a waiting game at the moment.

I have read a ton but am still new to the terms and technicalities of all of this so bear with me!

I've joined this forum to chat to people who may be in a similar position to my family. Apparently his prognosis is poor and so it has affected the family deeply. I myself can't sleep anymore. I'm currently awake lying in bed again!

He is in high spirits as he has been from the beginning but is obviously terrified. I keep thinking the worst and worry that I won't be strong enough to cope with any more bad news.. I know if these things happen you just find inner strength you didn't know you had but I am finding it hard to stay optimistic after googling too much!

Is anyone else here in the UK fighting male Choriocarcinoma?

  • Hello Zoomzoom,

    Very sorry to hear about your brother's diagnosis but it's great that despite everything he manages to be in high spirits.

    We do have some information on our forum on choriocarcinoma which I hope will be useful. If you live in the UK, don't hesitate also to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    I hope you will meet others on this forum who have been affected by choriocarcinoma so you can share experiences.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
