Grade 2 invasive ductal Breast Cancer

I a 58 years old and was diagnosed with breast cancer on 29th July, had my lump ectomy and sentinel node biopsy the following Friday.  My follow up appointment is next Friday 19th August, this will make it three weeks since my operation and the wait to get my results is really starting to get to me.  To keep me going I have decided to believe that this is a good thing, surely they would have called me back sooner if they had found a problem with the lymph nodes.

  • Hi all I’m new to this site and I’ve just happened to stumble accross it whilst googling grade 2 ductual- I don’t really know what advice I am looking for but I just felt like any would be good - I’m 32 years old and have just been diagnosed with grade 2 ductal breast cancer - I’m awaiting more tests to see if it has spread etc but I’m just worried about the size of my lump (42mm) I’m just wondering if anyone has had a similar size lump and what kind of treatment they recorded etc. Hope everybody is ok and thank you

    Hi Amandajane,

Welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. You probably won’t really know what to ask until your diagnosis and treatment protocol are a little further down the line. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 9 years, so have some idea of what you are going through..

There are a number of people on this site who have had fairly sizeable lumps and, like all other cancers, the outcomes are variable. If you want to find out more about these, go to the blue banner at the top of this page, click on the search box and insert ‘size of breast lumps’, then click. This will bring up previous posts on the topic.

Please stay in touch and let us know how you get on. Try to steer clear of ‘Dr Google’ and stick only to reputable sites. There are many which are poorly researched, or out of date and, some of these will scare the pants off you for no good reason.

We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you [@Jolamine]‍

yes dr google made me feel really scared last week but I have since had a meeting with my nurse and consultant and they have been great and put my mind at ease a little - thank you very much for your kind words and help - I will look at the size part you mentioned now as that is the thing that is worrying me the most (and constantly worrying about wether it has spread of not as I am awaiting my mri ) sorry to hear you have had to deal with this more than once - hope you are well and thank you again xxx

We all tend to think the worst at the start of our cancer journeys, but fortunately this seldom turns out to be the case. I am glad to hear that you have spoken to your consultant and nurse and that you are feeling a little easier about things now.

I am currently dealing with a new problem. I had two excisional biopsies for melanomas - one on my face and one on my leg last Monday, so I am back to waiting for results again.

When are you due to have your MRI scan? It can be helpful in showing up lesions more clearly.

    Always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Ahhh I am so sorry to hear that I really hope your results come back ok and it’s nothing bad.

i have my mri on Wednesday and results meeting the following Thursday so it’s just a waiting game really isn’t it.

I’ll keep everything crossed for both of us and I really do hope your results come back ok - it must be so hard after everything you have already been theough

thank you again for your help and support

    Hi Amanda,

I shall be thinking of you on Wednesday and, for the anxious week following, while you wait for your results.

I'll certainly join you in keeping everything crossed for good results for both of us.

    I'm always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello all

Im new to this forum and just came across this page as i too have been diagnosed with grade 2 invasive ductal cancer.  Im 47 years of age, i went to see my GP after my mum was diagnosed with HER2 positive breast cancer but sadly my mum passed away 3 weeks after diagnosis as hers had spread very fast and was very aggressive.  I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on 5th march and i go back on 20th march for the biopsy results.  Im trying to stay positive and remember that at 1.5cm my lump was found early and is very small but im feeling very anxious about the results and what is coming next.  Im a single mum to 12 year old twins and the thought of not being here to see them grow up breaks my heart .  Anyone else on here have similar feelings to me?? Xx

  • Hi

So sorry you are with us but welcome! You are in the right place and other BC ladies will be in touch. I am so sorry about your mum. You will be missing her so much and especially now. The waiting is the worst and you will feel better when you know your treatment plan. I hope you have somebody close who can go with you?

Sending a hug and best wishes. Others will be along soon to reassure you. My BC journey is different to yours but the worries and stress are the same for us all. Come on to rant, it's ok to not be ok!

    Hi RunningSue,

Welcome to our community, although I'm sorry for the reason that has brought you here.

I am so sorry to hear about how quickly your poor mum passed and, offer my sincere condolences. My father-in-law died at the end of January, just 6 days after diagnosis and, 4 months to the day that his beloved wife of 80 years had also died. We all feel shell-shocked at the speed with which this happened.

My mum died 21 years ago as the result of secondary breast cancer. It had spread to her liver, lungs, brain and bones. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 9 years.

I am glad to see that you have already had a lumpectomy and a sentinel node biopsy and hope that the results you get on 20th March, bear no resemblance to the type of cancer your mum had. You are bound to be worried about your twins at the moment. Of all the people referred to the breast clinic only 1 person in 10 tends to have cancer. Even if your biopsy does show breast cancer, many people are now living with it instead of dying with it.

I am glad that you ae doing your best to stay positive and, I hope that all goes well for you on 20th March.

Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
