DCIS and New to Forum!!!

Hello All,

I have been ridden with worry since my Mom's mammograms found suspicious microcalcifications and the breast specialist said they treat DCIS the same as they would full blown cancer, a full masectomy of both breasts. We were literally in shock!

Mom is 78 and never had routine mammograms in the past, so we don't know whether these calcifications have been there for years or whether they are new, and with her age, there is no way we are doing such a radical procedure if it's Stage 0 Cancer.

Right now we are opting to get the Oncoblot test. Not sure if anyone heard of it before, but it's an option to an invasive surgical biopsy where it can tell you whether you have cancer and where, however it does not stage the cancer. That can only be done by a pathologist through a biopsy. Her test is tomorrow and it takes 2-weeks.

We feel treating DCIS like full blown cancer is not necessary in my Mom's case due to her age and that if it's Stage 0 it buys us time to monitor and use holistic forms of therapy to try to halt it from changing from non-invasive to invasive. This oncoblot test can be taken again after holistic therapy and it will tell us whether the cancer is still present or whether it's gone, if in fact she has DCIS at all.

I wanted to know if anyone here has opted to skip conventional methods of diagnosis and treatment, and if so, how are things?

Of course we are scared, but right now that is where our heads are at, although things can change.

I would value any comments on the topic as this is very difficult as you can already know.

Thanks so much!

I am sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis of DCIS. You will find some information on DCIS and DCIS treatment here which I hope will be helpful. You might also be interested in reading more about complementary and alternative therapies here.

I have also found a couple of recent threads discussing DCIS and you might wish to respond to them and share your story with others who may be in a similar situation. You can, for example, read [@Happylarry]‍ 's contribution here.

This thread might also be worth having a look at. I hope you will get to connect with others here who also have experience of DCIS.
