I'm new to this group

Hi all

my name is Roberta. My friends call me Berti :-)

had cancer removed from my breast, had chemo then radiotherapy which finished end of March. All going well but, noticed my breast has swollen & fluid build up near my collar bone. My oncologist said that's normal after radiotherapy. My worry is, I have precancerous cells outside the safe margin & was told that radiotherapy will have killed these cells but, how will I know

  • Hello Berti,

A big welcome to our forum! I am glad all is going well for you following surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I just wanted to let you know that  I have asked our cancer nurses to comment on your thread which they will do very soon. They may be able to shed some light on your question.

You can also ring them at any time on this free number if you are based in the UK: 0808 800 4040 - Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I am sure there are members on our forum who have had a similar experience following breast cancer treatment and that they will come and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Berti and thanks for posting,

I am one of the enquiry nurses and Lucie our moderator has asked us to look at your post in case we could tell you anything.

I hope this doesn’t unsettle you, but I don’t think you can know for certain if the radiotherapy has done its job, but there is every reason to expect that it has because it is a very effective treatment. I think everyone would like a guarantee that their treatment has been 100% successful but the doctors can seldom give one although everything may well be fine. It sounds as if your doctor is happy with the way your treatment has gone, so try not to worry (I know it is easier said than done).

    Take care

    Julia

  • Thank you Julia

i know it's hard to confirm a 100% result hoping my mammogram in Sep will confirm all is well. It's worrying & I must stay positive.

    Many thanks
