Tamoxifen

Hi 

I'm new to this but my sister told me this would help if I have any questions and to prove we are not alone in this devastating situation.

after battling breast cancer 6 years ago and deciding to go on tamoxifen not long after her massectomy as told by doctors this would stop cancer coming back and tbh helped my mum through the past 6 years we have now found out cancer has returned to her uterus stomach and pray to god no where else.

we have now found out tamoxifen causes high risk to develop in one of these areas.myself and family did not know of this and utterly devastated to to think that the drug prescribed to make her better has actually made her 100x worse,

i would be grateful if anyone has any similar stories to share

    I am sorry to hear that your sister is being treated for breast cancer and has now developed uterine (womb) cancer.

    The tamoxifen your sister had is an important treatment that helps prevent breast cancer from returning. However unfortunately, like all medications it can have side effects. The risk of women developing uterine cancer while taking tamoxifen is rare.   Less than 1% of all cases of uterine cancer are estimated to be caused by taking tamoxifen.  Nonetheless I can appreciate your concern about your sister.

    I am sorry but because we are not involved in your sister’s care I do not know what she was told about the potential side effects of taking tamoxifen.  Usually a patient is told all the facts associated with treatments. Also it is usual for each pack of medication to have a patient information leaflet inside which lists all known side effects of the treatment.  But I can appreciate that not everyone reads this especially when they may be feeling overwhelmed with the amount of information given to them already.

    Most cases of uterine cancer are cured by surgery but I can still appreciate that your sister and your family are worried about this.  We have more information about uterine cancer, it’s causes and treatments here

    I see this is a long time ago now.

    but this is now happening to me.

    i want to highlight how dangerous TAMOXIFEN is. 
    It really should not be taken without close monitoring

    i see this is an old thread but wonder if anyone has experienced changes to their cervix due to tamoxifen? 
    I have been on 20mg daily for 15 months and had a clear smear 7 months ago but had a lesion on my cervix spotted this week

    waiting for gyne apt 

    had an us yesterday which was also clear

    if anyone has had a similar experience would be great to hear
