first post to this forum

Hi,

This is my first visit and post to the forum, I'm currently awaiting surgery for a bronchi carcinoma in my right lung so am obviously quite nervous and concerned about the future but have found this website the most reliable and informative about the processes I had so far.

unfortunately the hospital has not been as supportive as I'd hoped but guessing I'm just one patient amongst many so have spent many nights searching the Internet for quality information to try and get my head around what's going on.

Hope to be apart of this community for some time to come.

  • Hi Bob

The hospitals dont generally seem to give much support pre treatment, this can leave you searching for answers to all the questions you didn't ask when you saw the doctors, because having never been in this situation before how could you know which questions to ask. You should be assigned a Mcmillan nurse, they are really helpful, so dont turn down their help. You can ask the nurses here any questions and you can telephone them too with you queries. Often you can ask to speak to someone at the hospital on a call back. There is lots of info on this website and the McMillan website is really good too. Call back here and let us know how you are getting on. Kim

  • Cheers Kim,

I've not been offered McMillian Nurse contact yet but will certainly be accepting their help when it is offered.

I'll be posting and asking questions on here for as long as I can both before and after the surgery.

Many thanks for the supportive and helpful comments

    Bob

  • Went for my surgery to remove part of my lung yesterday, woke up to find the surgeon checked the original tumour site and found no trace of abnormal cell in the area had developed after he had removed the mass during the biopsy last month so he chose not to remove the lung lobe and just took more biopsies to check if the area was now clear or if the cells are just slow growing enough to allow it to just be monitored rather than the major surgery.

Im in a strange mind set at the moment, pleased it's seems ok but had got my head and the surgery and all that entailed for my future health and work and now it's all changed and back to more tests and monitoring...

Guess I'll sort it all out once the anaesthetic clears my system and I can understand it all a bit better.
