looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Hi there Rukefa, welcome to the forum. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer more than 3 years ago. I know at the time, I think it was T1, but can't recall the rest of it. All I can recall is that I was told that it was very aggressive, but had not penetrated the bladder wall. Since then, I have had many TURBT's, cystos, and at one point, a tumor from my bladder travelled up the ureter tube leading to my right kidney. I had a major surgery that made it necessary to replace that tube with an artificial one. I was in surgery for more than 5 hours. I also had several BCG treatments. I'm in between cystos right now, so really don't know what's going on with it. I will have another cysto likely in August. I'm thankful I still have my bladder where many who were diagnosed the same time as me don't. I also have other cancers which are unrelated, but I won't go into that now.

I would strongly suggest that you check out the section on this forum "About Cancer" and read up on what it says about bladder cancer. The information on here is reliable and based on documented research. Do not do this on Google because you will drive yourself nuts. There are not too many of us with bladder cancer on this forum. There was one person who posted awhile ago, but that person has not posted recently.

Good luck with it and come back and let us know how you get along. If I can answer any questions for you, please let me know.

    Take care.

  • Hi Lorraine

Thank you very much for replying,

At  the moment it's T1 going in for another turbt  if it's still T1 then I can have BCG, 6 weeks course once a week. I have been told it will come back, unfortunately I cannot have radiotherapy .I am hoping if all goes well to have a reasonable length of time before it returns.

Do you know of any trials available ????

    Thank you,Rukefa

  • Hi there Rukefa, unfortunately, bladder cancer often does come back as mine did several  times. Having said that, I still have my bladder so the TURBTs and cystos, BCG treatments, etc have made it possible. I hope this is the case for you as well. Bladder cancer does have a high recurrance rate, but I think they are having better success with keeping people alive and preventing further spread to other organs. Having so many cystos, surgeries, treatments, etc. is not fun, but if it works, go for it. I had the six week treatment of BCG and that was followed 3 months later by another set of 3 weekly treatments and again 3 more after that again.

As far as any trials, I'm not aware of any here in Canada. I don't know about where you are, but your treatment team should know of any if there are. This is something you might want to discuss with them. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions of your team. The more you know about this disease, the better off you will be. At least you will have a better understanding of what and why you are receiving treatments, etc. Also, as I said earlier, look up the information on this site and read up on bladder cancer. They have good info there that is reliable and based on documented research.

Come back on here and let us know how you get along.
