New to this

Hello, my name is colin and just been informed i have prostate cancer, well i think so, but i couldn;t take it in so i'm unsure. I am 52 and this has come of a shock to me, i really don't know if it;s serious as ive only been informed they found 6/6 cores in my biopsy, but i dont understand if that really is cancer or not. i have a MRI scan tomorrow and waiting for a bone scan; id love to hear from anyone in the same situation as me or anyone who wants to share there feelings as im feeling low at the moment but find it hard to talk about this to anyone face to face,

Kind regards Col

  • Hi Colin,

Welcome to the forum although we're sorry for the reason it has brought you here.

Being given such news can be quite overwhelming and it's completely understandable that you might be feeling shocked and confused. Many of our members have been in a similar position and I'm sure they will be along soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you.

If you're unsure about anything you've been told I would recommend giving our nurses a quick call before your scan tomorrow as they will be able to explain anything you might not understand. If you're based in the UK you can call them for free on 0808 800 4040 and they are available between 9a.m-5p.m, Monday - Friday.

We wish you well for your MRI scan tomorrow and hope it goes ok.

Please come back and let us know how you get on and remember that we are here for you if you need us.

    Kind Regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • HI colin its such a lot to take i  when i was told i had leukemia my head was all over the place, blood counts, platelets, white cells, red cells, chemotherapy, it is so much to take on board will i recover will i die projecting what about this and that, your doing the best thing share how you feel looking back what i done after a while was acceptance be srong minded accept the things you can not change the courage to change the things you can and the wisdom to know the diffrence.take every day as its comes you can only live in the day be good to yourself after 5 lots of chemotherapy a bone marrow transplant 3 years now im as strong as ox not every day has been great im in recovery one day at a time good luck mark

  • Hi colon

my hubby was diagnosed with prostate cancer so I know a little   Nor get his numbers now as its been three years but they were borderline. He opted to do Davinci surgery and his number were a little better because it was contained in the prostate. He also has the MRI and bone scan to see if there was any spread and then the doctors can decide with you about which treatment to have

He recovered well from surgery and has bee cancer free since so there s a lot f hope.

Try not to read statistics on the Internet and take one da at a time. You will be fine.   Good luck

  • Hi Mark, thanks for your support it means so much to me. I'm really proud of you the way you have forght your illness also so pleased your on the way up. Talking to others is such a help, i can't talk to friends as they are not going through this thank goodness so it helps being on this chat line. Im waiting for my bone scan and had my MRI yesterday so it feels like a lifetime waiting. People say prostate cancer is the best one to get, but no one deserves to get any illness like this.Im trying to be positive but have bad days now and then which im sure you do but knowing the likes of you are here for support or just chat to is fantastic.

Thanks so much Mark and hope your recovery is stronger day by day.
