breast cancer newbie

Hi there, I was diagnosed with a 'grade two mucinous breast cancer' on 12th May. Since then I have had an MRI scan because the lump didn't show up in the mammogram and they couldn't see what was going on from the ultrasound either. Apparently I have 'dense breasts' - hmm! Although I was expecting to be seen by the consultant again this coming week, the Macmillan nurse says I'm in for Tuesday 31st which will be 2 weeks after the MRI.

In common with most people here I expect, I'm finding the waiting hard! I'm prepared for whatever treatment comes but I'd like to know if I need to write off the entire rest of the year (or even the rest of my life!) or whether it will be a wide excision in a couple of weeks followed by radiotherapy or whatever. I have had to tell a few people but I'm not telling my family until I know what the treatment will be. My stepdaughter is off to Thailand next weekend for six months, which means I won't be able to see her face to face to tell her, which makes me sad. Her mother died of breast cancer and I dread telling her, and her siblings.

Difficult times! But reading this forum I can already see that so many others go through this and I'm awed by people's resilience and generosity to those just starting out the whole cancer thing. Although I have low days I am keeping busy and determined not to think of myself as a victim! I've had a huge amount of good luck in my life and I hope to take the bad luck with good grace.
