Hi, I'm new, my dad has cancer

Evening All,

I'm not looking for sympathy here, but still trying to get my head around the facts.  My dad has had CT scans and they say he has pancreatic cancel that has spread to the liver and stomach lining.  We are seeing a specialist on Friday to find out more but he seems so weak and in so much pain it's not good.  Not sure what to expect on Friday, sort of hoping for some good news but expecting the worse.  I'm 40 and my dad is 66, I lost my mom at  6 years of age and I'm currently very scared of loosing my dad

sorry, I know there is no magic answer but I need to share as its eating me up inside

Pete

  • Hi Pete,

you deserve some sympathy its a horrible position to be in believe me I undestand - my dad has stage 4 lung cancer, I'm 38 and my dads 67.  He is having chemo to prolong life and make him more comfortable, I'm scared too it's horrible not knowing what to expect. I'm so sorry about your mum to that must have been so hard on you at such a young age.

Try to not panick to much before Friday, hopefully you will find out more and at least your dad can then be given some pain killers and morphine tablets and anything else to help him feel better and they can start talking about possible treatments.

sorry I prob haven't really helped.  It's 5 to 1 I can't sleep thinking about my dad and just thought I'd say hi and send you a message to say I know how you feel and it's horrible :-(

reach out to people on here no one can help I know but it can be helpful not feeling so alone in this, also maybe give the MacMillan nurses a call don't have their number to hand but they are so lovely and give really good advice on how to chat to dad and what to maybe expect they have so much information to hand I have found them so helpful

any way sending a virtual hug

    dawn
