Hello. My husband is diagnosed with brain glioma

He will be treated at Sloan Kettering in New York City.  He is a highly skilled jazz guitarist but  hands are weakening and fine motor skills and spacial relations are all out of whack. He is unable to play now.  Treatment will consist of targeted radiation and chemo via ingested tablet.  He wonders whether it is worth it if he will never be able to play guitar again, because this is his main reason for being, in his mind.  We have many thoughts for and against treatment protocol.

I am glad there is an online forum to reach out to. Many days, we function through a constant mist of tears.

  • Hi Della,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat!

We are sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and how sad that he is unable to play the guitar now. I hope your husband feels a little better soon and that the treatment works well for him so he can start playing again. In the meantime, I bet you have a great music collection in your house. What are your favourite artists? Music can have such a good effect on us all.

You have done the right thing in reaching out to this forum. Many here will understand what you are going through at the moment. One person in particular springs to my mind at the moment: Mandymops is also caring for her husband who has a glioblastoma brain tumour. You can read her most active thread here and respond to it  if you wish and share your story with her. Another person who is in a similar situation is Lynn97 who posted on this thread recently about her husband's brain tumour diagnosis.

I hope you get to talk to others here who are in exactly the same boat at the moment and that you can bring comfort to one another.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
