Mum with cancer

Hello. I am new here. My mum has cancer and has been moved to a hospice.

It hasall happened so quickly. I'm in shock.

  • Hi Flywheel, I'm so sorry to learn about your mum, it is so hard to process something as huge without being in shock.

Late last year my dad started having back pain,  then we learned my dad had a mass on his lung,  just a couple of weeks later we were dealing with the fact chemo wouldn't be able to extend his life by more than a few weeks and that he has 3-4 months left at best.

I remember feeling in denial at first, then horror then utter sadness, then feeling a strange calm....my head desperately trying to look for a positive in it all to make it seem better.  I held onto the fact that i know had a chance to spend quality time with him and tell him everything i needed to tell him and support mum.

He is home now on pain relief,  I'm not sure how long he'll last.

My advice would be to take each day as it comes. Reach out to friends who have had similar experiences. Accept help and make sure you have pockets of 'normality' where you do things for yourself. It will be up and down but we found we were still able to laugh and it felt so good.

    Best wishes xxxxx

Hi. Sorry to hear your news.

I lost my mum in March after receiving the heart breaking news only 9 months beforehand that she had bone cancer.

Time does seem to go to quick. But you must spend as much time with her as possible.

  • My mum died 3 months ago today, on 14th April.

It still hurts so much. I have planted some flowers in the front garden in her memory.

I am waiting for counseling as I am not coping toowell.

I am in a new job too.
