Breast cancer survivor

Hi! I am a survivor ! Diagnosed in September 2009 . Mastectomy and Chemotherapy later rebuilt and this is me!

I've since supported friends who've been similarly diagnosed. I run a small local group who meet for lunches 'Chemo Ladies' . We all met during treatment...

Happy to chat ...

  • Hi Gail. Thank you for your post. How lovely that you all keep in touch. I go to the Maggies centre which has a breast cancer support group every month. Met some lovely people too. Most are finished treatment and returning to work. I have had a mastectomy chemotherapy and going through radiotherapy now. Kind regards. Audrey

  • Hello,

I finished treatment for breast cancer 2 1/2 years ago, and when I was undergoing treatment I was not aware of any local groups. I think it is a brilliant idea for you to help others and still keep in touch.  I did go to the Moving on sessions, which were very good.

I am back at work now and feeling well, but sometimes it hits me out of the blue, the realisation that I had cancer, and the memories come flooding back of the treatment I underwent.  It is still scary going for check ups and mamograms, I think most of us in this situation feel this.  It must be really nice to meet with Ladies who will understand these feelings.  I feel very fortunate I have good work colleagues, that pick you up when you feel a little down.

I think I am very lucky now to be very well and enjoying life.

  • I had a mastectomy on the 21.3.16 I am tired all the time is this normal. I haven't started  chemo yet.

  • Hello,

I think with any general anasthetic it takes a minimum of six weeks to get over the operation.  I remember being at this point in the journey and being very scared, and emotions everywhere, which makes us feel very tired.  I remember wanting to get on with things to take my mind off breast cancer, but I had to rest. The best advice I had is to take one step at a time and look after yourself,  rest and eat a good diet. Easy said than done!!

Chemo was very scary to me, but I did not have a bad time, I could have worked through, but I work in a school, and was advised not to because of infection.

Three years on, and things are more or less back to normal, work etc.

Please keep posting on this site for support, as there are many who have gone through this who will help you.

    Take care  Diane xxx

  • Dear All,

Hope you all are doing well.

I am currently in my 3rd of Fashion. My project is about femininity so I have been inspired by breast cancers and scars. I was just wondering if I could interview you with a few questions? That would be a great help. You can also contact me through email if that suits you better.

    Many thanks,

    Joyce
