Father with Cancer

Hi everyone

My father was diagnosed with Lung cancer last September and has since that time had a full course of Chemo followed by Radiotherapy.  He seemed to be doing well after the chemo but just before the Radiotherapy was to commence he became quite ill and ended up being admitted to hospital.  He recovered enough while in hospital for his Radiotherapy to go ahead.

After his treatment he seemed to improving and was able to walk further than he had done since before the new year - that was us up until last week.  In the space of a week he has become practically bedridden again.

I have joined the forum to get advice on how to help my Dad cope with illness and also get advice on how to help my Mum, Brother and myself cope what is happening and what is to come.

  • Hi my husband has lung cancer I never know a more heartbreaking time so I know what you going though . I joined here to have some one to speak to as well . My husband on his 2 nd chemo but every thing worrys me . How long has your dad had it ? X

  • He was diagnosed last September (2015) but had been going back and forth to the Doctors with a cough for most of last year (kept being dismissed as a chest infection etc) - Local GP's just didn't seem to want to know (despite the TV campaign)

The worst thing about it is how frail it has made him - he was walking for miles every day with their dog up until his treatment and now struggles to get out of bed.  My mum was a nurse until she retired - this does help but she is finding it hard to cope.  I need to find out what help she can get to look after him - she has started talking about hospices - but at this stage this would not do my Dad any good - he wants to be at home.

How is your Huband coping with Chemo? - my Dad had severe nose bleeds- he wasn't warned about this before hand but apparently the nurses said it is quite common.
