new to forum

hi I am new to the forum, I have breast cancer and finding the side effects of the chemo hard to cope with. The oncologist says all of my side effects are normal but doesn't give advice for self help.

  • Hi im new to forum too,

I found out last week im in remmision, you haven't said what side effects you are having, i was  in hostpital for most of my treatments ,the cancer care nurses had loads of advice ,do you have a mcmillan nurse ? Maybe they can help .

  • Hi flapjack, sorry to hear that, chemo is never nice, it's toxic for a reason, I feel for you as I watched my mam suffer the side effects of it, all I can say is just try and cope as best you can, as hard as it will be for you, some days you might feel better than others hopefully, I hope you have family or friends to help look after you, like with housework, cooking and shopping etc?

    take care

  • Hi Flapjack,

Chemo can be a ***, but many of the side effects can be reduced with the right medication. Don't make my mistake and suffer in silence for too long. After my second round of chemo I talked to my GP and then my oncologist. Between them and my lead nurse we sorted out the nausea and bowel issues with domperidone and other medications. Only sleep helped with the exhaustion (for the first time in my life I napped in the afternoon) and light exercising (dog walking) helped keep muscular problems under control.

It was a relief to come off chemo - which is something to look forward to.

    Good luck
    Dave

  • Hi

I am also having chemotherapy for breast cancer.I too have some side effects but I do have good days also.

Don't suffer without discussing this with your oncology team they are so good with helping.Perhaps your Meds just need shifting about a bit? I know it makes you feel just horrid.I have about 6 days of feeling dreadful and then I'm ok until my next treatment.

I am here to chat if you want

    Sending sympathetic hugs
