Friend support

Hi my best friends little girl has been diagnosed with lukemia and currently undergoing bone marrow tests, how do I support her best without being to overpowering at this difficult time? She has 2 other children in school. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Petalbug,

You sound like a good friend to have. It's been my experiancethat when cancer strikes in a family, most people like to keep as much normality in their lives as possible otherwise it seems cancer takes over everything. All I can suggest is to be guided by how your friends mood changes,if she needs a shoulder to cry on ect. Its a difficult situation and I have known several people say friends have ignored them and turned away from them because the dont know what to say or do.

Hope the little girl can be treated.

Please let us know how you get on. Brian.

  • We all need friends like you when something devastating like this happens to us.  Just let her know that you will do anything in your power to help, whether it be an ear to listen, help with the children or a magazine and coffee.  Wishing all good luck to your friend and her little girl.
