Colorectal Cancer Survivor

Hi

I am a colorectal cancer survivor. Having been given a 10% chance of making it 5 years, 2 years ago, I am pleased to say that I have turned over that prognosis with a 95% full recovery. I am now expecting to make it for the next 30 years (I am 57). A tough but amazing journey with the Royal Marsden. I am happy to help anyone who would like to make contact.

Best Wishes
Paul

  • Always good to hear survivor stories Paul

I think there are a lot of people on the forum right now who would love to hear about your journey.

I see you already replied to Wendy but if you can find a bit of time why dont you start a longer post in one of the formums like newly diagnosed - there are always so many people who are facing odds like that and think that they can never be one of the small percentage that make it.

I'd love to hear how the Marsden got you through and what you think made the difference - I'm sure many others would too

Meeting people who can say I've been where you are now and am winning the fight in a major way is one of the greatest things that this site makes possible!

  • That's great Paul I'm a liver cancer survivor and well I don't have another 30 years as I'm nearly 74 but I definitely want to make it another 10 or 15. I was given a 46% change of survival over a 5 year mark and I proven them wrong !! -Diane x

  • I don't have another 30 years as I'm nearly 74 - defeatist! ;)

  • Well I don't see my self in my 90s not many make it to that age. -Diane

  • Hi Paul, I just wanted to thank you for your post. I have just arrived here as my Dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer today. I am trying to understand as much as I can about it and am determined to help him in any way I can. Can I ask if your cancer had spread, and if so, where it had spread to?

  • Hi PaulF

I'd love to talk to you more about your journey as my Dad is currently going through the same thing and stories like yours are an absolute blessing to read through.

  • Hi Paul,  It's great to hear your amazing story, My name is Linda, wife of George who has been diagnosed with bowel cancer, which now has spread to his liver. We are obviously very upset,  but trying to cope as best as we can.

Would you be able to let me know more about your treatment, and how you have survived, and sound so well and optimistic.

my husband is now having chemo - xeleri (Irinotecan and Capecitabine), but not coping with it at all well.

He has a lot of side effects, especially abdomen pain.

Look forward to your reply,  Linda
