Mum with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma

After 7 weeks after if's and but's with lots of maybe's.my 74 year ol mum has been diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma, she is not a candidate for radiotherapy or surgery. While we were trying to find out what was wrong, she was bought into hospital twice and treated as a stroke patient, she is now in hospital and comfortable.I have had meetings with doctors, community nurses, neuro oncology nurses and they have been fantastic but it has been a massive shock, one thing i did not think i would be doing this year is burying my mum,due to the nature of the gliobalstoma and the memory issue, cognitive issues and we have tried to tell her but she cannot recollect it,i do not what to expect next as we have not actually approached that part yet,we are still dealing with the shock of what the eventual diagnosis was, help from anyone when, anywhere would be appreciated as the time she has left is precious and i need to help her the best way i can without falling apart.

  • Hello Jules,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. We are sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis.

I hope they are looking after your mum well in hospital and it's good to hear she is being kept comfortable.

The memory issues must be hard to deal with and I hope you get to talk to others here who are also looking after a loved one who has a Glioblastoma. One good person who is in a similar situation and who springs to my mind is Mandymops whose husband was diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma in August. You can read her thread here and feel free to share your story with her if you wish.

I hope others will be along soon to say hello. Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm if you ever want to ask them anything.

    Best wishes,
