lower bowel cancer

Hi -

I have just finished a 6 week course of chemoradioation for anorectal cancer. I'm in my early 40'sand female.

Was wondering if anyone had any advice or wouldn't mind sharing their experience of this type of cancer.

Did chemoradiation work for you? Did you need surgery? Did your cancer come back after several years?

Were you able to get any life insurance?

Many thanks in advance from this seriously exhausted lady!

  • Hi nrc and welcome to the forum.

Great news on completing your 6 weeks of chemo radiation. No wonder you're feeling exhausted!

I had 25 sessions of chemo radiation with a view to trying to shrink the bowel tumour. It did reduce it a small amount and I went on to have surgery to remove the tumour. I now have an ileostomy and I've lived it with it for nearly 2 and half years. I had 'belt and braces' chemo after the surgery, but was intolerant to it, so that was stopped. Unfortunately, a follow up scan showed liver mets, but I've had surgery for that.

I already had life insurance cover in place, but ironically, had thought about increasing the premiums a while before diagnosis, but never got round to It!

If you want to ask anything, please do and I'll try to help.

In the meantime, rest up and look after yourself. I hope you're not suffering too much with sore skin problems.

    Take care, Jo xx
