Prostrate Cancer - Radiation Treatment -

My 79 year old dad was diagonised with prostrate cancer last year in May, and only 6 days ago that is when they started with treatment.  Since he was diagnosed last year he is still walking around with a catheter. They are doing a radiation treatment, and today he has started having a running tummy.  Can someone who has been through this kind of treatment please advise what is the best diet to follow, what one can do.  I know the doctor said it is part of the side effects but this is worrying.  Unfortunately today he is weary of what he eats and scared because he is worried that he will have to run to the toilet.  My mum who is also having her own health problems with the heart is so worried as well.

  • Hi Kehesa,

I had 37 radiotherapy treatmentsand did start to have the runs. I didnt have any special diet But I used Imoduim Instants and I found they worked well for me. They are only a very small tablet which you let disolve in your mouth. I expect your dad has also been put on hormone therapy as well. I was on this for a few months so the hormones stop the body making testosterne which can feed cancer. During those months my cancer shrunk and my psa came dowm from 70 to 3.18. Then I started the radiotherapy and after a few weeks of finnishing that, my psa was the lowest they can measure at 0.01. I am telling you this so that you can see, it is a very effective treatment.

Hope this helps. Take care, sending kind thoughts and best wishes, Brian.
