New thyroid cancer diagnosis

Hi, I was diagnosed yesterday with thyroid cancer. Just wondered about anybodys' experiences. Im a nurse myself but this is extremely different to being the care giver

  • Hello annabw,

I noticed you hadn't yet received a response so thought I would bump your post to the top and I hope you will hear from others who have also had thyroid cancer.

As you have only just been diagnosed, it must all be a lot for you to take in. We have some information on our site on thyroid cancer.

You mention you are a nurse yourself but if you wanted to talk to one of our lovely cancer nurses, feel free to give them a call on our free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. You can ask them any question you may have following your diagnosis.

I have done a search for you for other threads on thyroid cancer and you can see the results of my searches here. Feel free to respond to any threads you think might be relevant to you.

I hope this helps a little and that others will be along soon to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi anna,

it's my first reply here hoping I can help. Sorry if my english is poor, I have just moved to UK.

I am 28 and unfortunately my healthy history is filled by several medical conditions.

I was diagnosed one year ago for papillary thyroid cancer, I had 4 nodes but all exams were fine, it did not seem a cancer before the surgery. However the biopsy found that it was a cancer, I was always sick without knowing this and I suffered a lot waiting the surgery (not urgent becouse it was not a suspect cancer!). After the surgery I had radioiodine ablation I131 and after one year now I can say to be fine, the follow up is excellent now, even if I still will need check up in the next months, and the cancer seems to be gone (at least for now).

All I can say is that thyroid cancer is not the worst one. Life is long for us. Be strong!

If you have any doubts I would be happy to help, feel free to ask.

    Mary
