Dad with stage 4 colon cancer spread to the liver

Hi all,

My dad was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer on December 2014. He had symptoms since that summer. He had 6 radiotherapy sessions before surgery, that was on May.

Sadly the surgery couldnt have gone any worse, as he had a colon stroke about three days after, requiring of another surgery and permanent ileostomy. Also he got some bacteria infections, and the healing took so long.

He was on the hospital for about 2 months, instead of 15 days that he was told.

He was so wick that he couldn't receive any chemotherapy treatment afterwards.

He started recovering around the end of August, but sadly they find out that the cancer had massively spread to his liver. He was told he'd live just a few months if he couldn't get treated.

Finally he has managed to have 8 chemotherapy sessions so far, and he's having another 4, finishing by mid-February. At the moment he can't have any surgery, as the cancer on the liver is affecting a big area as many other points on the liver.

He's having a good response to the chemo so far, however on the last two analytics, tumor markers are not going any lower, and a few of them seem to be going up. He'll get a better diagnose by the end of the chemo sessions.

I'd love to read about any similar stories, I know every case is different, but I'd like to know what i could expect.

Many thanks, xx

  • Hi, my dad has been ill for some time & on Christmas Eve it was confirmed he had colon cancer. I, like you are worried sick & don't know which way to turn ? I've done lots of research but talking to other people like on here is helping because I know I'm not the only one who is struggling & other people understand what your going through so your not alone. I wish your father well.
