im just like you. My husband is 54 been married for 21 years was diagnosed end of august with stage 4 lung cancer, spread to lympth nodes and adrenal gland. He was given 10 to 15 months with chemo or less than 10 without. He chose not to have any treatment at all

He is currently on a cocktail of tablets throughout the day, ie morphine, nerve pain killers and the last few month steroids as he was tired and had no appetitie

This all did the trick for him, his appetite came back, he was full of life again, he cashed his pension in, bought a car and basically did what he wanted to do. He enjoyed his vodka everynight, still enjoyed his cigarettes

His hospice nurse said a few weeks back he had to start reducing the steroids, well since then he has gone down hill, so much so now they have told him he is at the beginning of the end. They have upped the steroids again to try and pick him up

I would say to you, remain positive and do as much as you enjoy doing together whilst he is able, let him enjoy his life and be there for him when he is scared, which will happen to him, at the beginning my husband was very upbeat, but then he realized he is dying and he cryrs every night to me, hes scared and doesnt want to die. This will break your heart.

Just wanted to say that I admire your boyfriend for not having the chemo. I too have lung cancer, at the moment stable. I'm one of the lucky ones. It was caught early and operated on. However mine has spread from the right to the left. 

i don't know what my future holds but can only hope that I'm brave enough not to have chemo  and to let nature take its course.

Make the most of what you have and enjoy the time you have left.

hi carrie rose same here my husband of thirty five years weve been together thirty six n half years took ill suddenly last april we were told it was pleurisy because he worked on building sites he went back to work but by first june had to go off work sick hed never missed a shift in work all the years he worked from sixteen he just turned fifty five in october by end of nov he got more xrays they showed a shadow in lung our gp questioned the hosp it turned out the xrays in april showed a see next email

next email from annek it turns out xray in april did ahow a shadow but was missed !!!!! to cut long story shots after ct scan we were told three days before xmas he has cancer of the lung brain liver ribs and lymph nodes he starts chemo in the morning i cannot believe it i am broken hearted so are my son and daughter and all of his and my family and friends so you are not alone i cannot even think straight x lv ak x

Hi there and sorry to read your news, I lost my dad to suspected lung cancer that had spread to his liver and possibly more! For whatever reason my dad hid it from us and never got help until it was too late. My dad had an excellent quality of life up until his final month before he passed. He even built a garage in this time. If I'd of known I'd of wanted him to have treatment but that could of meant a poor quality of life for little gain. Take care all of you in similar positions x

I send you and your partner every feeling of support.  Sounds trite but I just want you to know that even though I cannot do anything practically - I am thinking of you both.  You have received messages which I think are heartbreaking in terms of learning about loss and courage  - being a lung cancer survivor - but they are equally uplifting.  Hope you have been in a place to feel that support and will access it as and when you need?  All courage to you both.  And happiness that you can grab and fun that you can experience!  Sian x
