Worried about breast cancer

Hi All. I'm a newbie to this site so thought I'd drop by to say hello and introduce myself. I'm 34 and a Mum to 2 gorgeous children. In November I found a lump in my right breast and went to the Dr's who told me to come back in a few weeks time as my period was due and she thought it could be down to hormonal changes due to of the month. The lump didn't go so I went back to the Dr Who referred me to the hospital for tests. I had a manogram, ultrasound and a biopsy  on December 23rd. The nurse said it could possibly be breast cancer.I have to go back on Wednesday to get the results and have been told to bring someone with me. I'm also booked in for MRI scan on Thursday. The past week has been a nightmare as I am so worried.  My husband is the only person who knows what's going on as I don't want to worry family and friends at this stage. Any advice/support would be much appreciated x

My son has that book my nurse gave it to him and another comic book one for my older son.Mummy's lump is great it really helped my 6 year old understand more.

My husband just isn't coping well he told me last night that looking after the 3 children the house the money and me was just too much.I'm not feeling that sympathetic tbh just man up! That sounds bad! Sorry I'm just fed up with his moods.

I'm worried about my hair too and my daughters reaction she is also young turning 2 in February. And my son aged 6 doesn't stop going on about my only breast etc..so he will point out the obvious no doubt.

My plan is lots of hats and wigs of every colour always wondered what I'd look like as a brunette.(this includes Blue, pink, purple, green)

I looked at my book about chemo last night.I'm apprehensive now too.

    I need a holiday-but I think I will save that up.xxx

  • Hi ladies, I felt very nauseous for about ten days afterwards, that was taking all the anti nausea tablets, also very tired. I started to feel human again for about a week before it started again. I got a very sore arm which resulted in having to get a central line in. My veins were not the best at the beginning but couldn't cope with the drugs. I was dreading getting the line in but it is so much better, no problem during treatment.    I lost my hair just before number two. Which I found devastating, as I had been growing it for about five years. Once it started to come out I went to a hairdresser that I don't know to shave it all off. I couldn't cope with it getting thinner etc. I have two wigs, one free and bought the other one. I only wear them when my family are around. I bought cotton beanies for in the house and if I go shopping I wear a woolly beanie on top of the cotton one. I work for the NHS which put me on half pay in September, with the view to it running out next month. I have filled the forms in for PIP but not heard anything yet. Lou Lou I understand when you say you can't believe this is happening, the last five months has been a blur and very unreal. Ness, having children to look after too is something to consider. Ladies you will both get through it, I found counting it down helped me, also remember everyone is different and side effects can differ to the individual x

  • Hi All. So today I had another MRI and CT scan with contrast which I'm told are my staging scans.

The nurse called me this evening to say I have been booked in to start chemo this Saturday at 8am. I'm relieved but also nervous. I have to go in before Saturday to have a line put in. Audrey - could you tell me what this involves? Also how long does each chemo session last for?

I had a look in the wig shop at the hospital today. They have some very realistic wigs but are quite expensive. I quite liked the cotton beanie hats too.

    Hope your all doing ok

  • Hi lou lou

Gosh that really is quick isn't it.I bet your head is spinning.Hasn't this all just gone so fast, not that that's a bad thing of course.

I have been looking at scarfs and hats etc too.I have brought myself some nice beanies and have ordered myself some nice scarfs from on line. I wanted to have them ready before hand.

I still have not had an MRI or CT scan, perhaps I will ask why on Thursday when I see my oncologist.

I do hope Audrey can shed some light on your questions this forum is so helpful I don't know where I'd be without all of you.

    Take care Ness

  • Hi Lou Lou. I am pleased things moving for you. I had the line put in theatre. You are awake throughout, you are given local anaesthetic to numb the area. The procedure took about twenty minutes, it wasn't painful at all. I found the local injection more uncomfortable. The chemo session took about an hour in total, mine was syringed in by a nurse who sat chatting which made the time go quick. Does your hospital trust give you a voucher towards your wig? Mine was free, I choose a long wig similar to how my hair was, I bought a short bob which was about 100 pounds. Have you bought your hats as I got mine on line which were a good price, about four pounds for Cotten beanies. I am doing okay thanks, it's about ten days since last treatment so feel human again. Hope you are okay x

  • Hi Ness, how you doing? I ordered mine from a site called annabanda, I found it the cheapest site. I bought some woolly beanies from Matalan. I went a bit mad with the hats I have a drawer full. Have you thought about wigs yet? I put it off for ages. I find it strange that some Trusts give you one free and others give you a contribution towards a wig. Hope you're feeling okay x

  • Hi

I'm ok.Apprehensive about the chemo starting but no more than anyone else here is I guess.I only have two hats so far and two scarfs coming but I'm planning on looking again tomorrow. There is a few shop in town that sell wigs so I'm going to look.My plan is to have loads of everything and why not! Even if I wear something different for the next 5 months.Im not sure but I think that may be the same site I went on??! Xxx

  • Thanks Audrey.

Yes the nurse mentioned a voucher for a wig but when I spoke to the lady at the wig shop today she said the voucher can only be used against the basic wigs although they seemed fine to me.

I think I may try the cold cap before my chemo session to see if it helps with hair loss. Anything is better than nothing I guess.

  • Hi Ness

Yes just a bit! I'm glad you are prepared and have gormt beanies.... I haven't really thought about it until today tbh.

I will keep you all updated about how my 1st chemo session goes on Saturday. Me and my husband were meant to be going out on Saturday night for dinner and drinks (first time in ages!). I hope I will still feel up to it

  • Well I have had a total shock today. The nurse called and asked if I could meet with my consultant today which I did. Unfortunately she had bad news for me the results from my scans are not good. The scans show cancer in my bones. I am in complete shock. The consultant didn't say much else ad she said it won't sink in. I'm meeting with another consultant on Friday to talk more about it. Chemo is being postponed until the consultants figure out what to do.

Just as I was getting my head around the breast cancer this happens. I actually feel sick and I am so worried. I keep thinking the worst.
