Newbie

Hi

New to the forum, about 6 weeks ago diagnosed with cutanous Lymphoma Lesion on the Left Temple, it been a bit of whirlwind of emotions, snot and tears everywhere. Still at times find it really difficult to get my head around - having no medical history to Lymphoma. Never felt unwell or over tired.

Had my blood and CT scan done - it appears they all seem to be normal (apart from a few small suspicious areas in the abdomen (too small to undertake anything) have a further appointment in three months to review this. ?further CT scan /bloods

The plan of action is Radiotherepy to the lesion (as it is located where the arm of my glasses sit) advised by the consultant Haematologist that these lesions tend to repond really well with low dose /short treatment plans.  Have my 1st Oncologist appointment on Tuesday 22nd Dec - hopefully to discuss the treatment plan.

Would appreciate input from people that have been through this and how they deal with coming to term with having cancer

  • Hi and Welcome to Cancer Chat, a great place to ask questions and let off a bit of steam!

I hope someone can answer your specific query, I have a different type of cancer so can't help with the specifics.

I guess we all deal with it in our own ways, it can take time to get your head around things. Allow yourself and others time to get used to the new reality.

Patience helps, especially when waiting for the results of tests and scans, as does having a positive outlook.

That said, I am probably one of the most impatient people you could meet, and we all have times when everything seems bleak and miserable.

Don't take anything lying down, and if you don't understand what a health professional has told you ask them to explain. Everyone involved in cancer care can seem to speak a different language and if you don't ask, they'll assume you know the jargon.

Try to avoid Googling your condition and stick to recognises good sources of online information (e.g. CRUK, MacMillan, nhs.uk) as there is a lot of misinformation and rubbish posted about cancer on the net.

    I hope this helps!
    Cheers
    Dave

  • Thank you davek - for you kind words.

As i come from a medical background and previously work in Emergency Care - perhaps it because i always seen the extremes of disease. You know what hey say "nurses always make the worse patients"

Yes been on the Cancer UK/Macmillin websites  - just confused myself at that time as i only just had a diagnosis.

Sometimes i keep thinking  - this is about a client/patient we talking about - not me.

Logically i know that we all deal with situation differently - so perhaps is a matter of time and adjustment  i need to deal with.

Sounds davek - you are keeping well, in case i dont get time, would like to wish you and other Forum Members a good Christmas
