Hello ..New on here as need to reach out ..I just found out my Mum has cancer. ...I am still in shock.  No treatment decided yet or details...but I am totally devastated and so scared. I admire peoples strength but struggling to deal with the news today.

  • Hi and welcome to this friendly and supportive forum.

Understandably, Your mum's diagnosis will have come as a huge shock to you and it will take time to process this news. It's often the case that once all the initial tests and results have been carried out and a treatment plan has been decided, we find we can cope a little better. It's usually 'the unknowns' that leave us reeling from the news we've received.

Don't be afraid to share your feelings with your mum, no doubt she will be experiencing similar emotions to you too.

Come to the forum anytime to rant, offload or ask questions and do let us know how you and your mum are getting on.

    Take care, Jo x

  • Thank you gor the reply.  More news....on brain and lung.  Told a yr to live......It breaks my heart.  Just want to know if her quality of life will be good for that year.  I want to mske as many memories as possible.

  • Sorry to read your mum's latest news.

You mentioned quality of life; your mum's medical team will put in place palliative care to help keep your mum comfortable and hopefully, enable her to have a good quality of life.

Take your cue from your mum and make some special memories.

Speaking from personal experience as a mum in a similar position to your mum, simply chatting with my adult children over a cuppa is a lovely way to make some memories.  Take care, Jo x
