Introduction

Hi all, just joined.

Earlier this year, in the summer, my sister was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer.  It was a very tough time for all because not only did she/we have that to contend with but my sister was my mums carer, they all lived together.  This meant mum had to go into care.

Won't go into details about that but she was not willing and made life really impossible for us. Eventually she had no choice but to go. Thankfully she seems to have accepted it better now.

Caroline (my sister,) is due to have her last chemo this Friday. She will then have another scan to see if it's still working.  After that she will just have Herceptin every (not sure if it's 3 weeks or 3 months) until it stops working. We don't know what happens when it stops working as Caroline prefers not to know.

I have found that I don't seem to be able to get any support for myself, which is why I've joined this site.

I'm not really sure if I'm dealing with it or blocking it out.

I'm hoping to read other people's stories and come to terms better with the situation.

That's all for now

Alison

  • Hi Allison,

Let me welcome you to this supportive forum although I am sorry to read about your sister. Families of the cancer patients need support just as much as the patient and sometimes even more for they often feel unable to talk openly and honestly to others. Thats why this site is so needed for you can open your heart up to people on here like you cant always do with family. BT ran an advertising campain years ago called "It's good to talk" and when someone you love has cancer that's never been more true.

Please keep in contact. Sending kind thoughts and best wishes to you, your sister and your family, Brian.
