Letrozole Side Effects

Hi

Now my chemo' has finished, last one was August and only managed 5 out of six, I am now on LETROZOLE, 2.5mg daily.  Is there anyone else on the same?  I am having a number of side-effects, such as itchy eyes, bad cough, palpitations, and arrhythmia.  Is there anyone else with similar please?

Not due to see the Oncolgist for another 3 weeks and I am scared I will be taken off them.  Also scared I will have a heart attack!!!!

TIA

  • I took Letrozole from April this year until last week.  Are you taking them for breast cancer?  I have had endometrial, cervical, pelvic and peritoneal cancers, which are incurable.  Because I refused chemotherapy I was given Letrozole.  I had hot sweats, bone ache, cough and a few other things.  I didnt mind as scans showed it was shrinking the main tumour but my last MRI showed it was growing again so I felt it wasnt worth it.  I dont think I am typical as my oncologist had said she expected it to work for at least 2 years.

I hope you get your side effects sorted.  Its worth phoning the hospital if you are at all worried.

  • Sorry for the delay in replying, not been very well.  Yes taking for breast cancer.

Saw the Oncologist in November, she took my off Letrozole and prescribes Tamoxifen from the 1st January.   Gave me a break so that my body could settle down, heart and lungs.  She said that she had not heard of the side effects I had had, leaflet said some of them were 1-100????

Started the Tamoxifen on the first, didn't take long for the side effects to manifest themselves.  After five days I was getting abdominal discomfort, now I am getting a discharge and my uterius is uncomfortable.  Past history of endometriosis and a damage falopian tube.  Have spoken to to a nurse practitioner who advised me to stop and again said never heard of these side effects before with Tamxoifen.  Can't see my GP until Thursday and am now getting very worried about uterine cancer as I am high risk.

Has anybody had anything similar, being unable to take either Letrozole or Tamoxifen?  And what is the third option?  Getting really scared now and would appreciate any help

  • Pleaase don't worry, there are alternative treatments.  I must admit my side effects lasted a few months then my body got used to it, just hot flushes remained.

It sounds as though you need your other problems addressing and I would insist this was done asap.  You shouldnt live with this.  Come back and let us know how you are. xI

  • Thanks for that, I'll let folks know what's happening.
