My mum has breast cancer

Hi, So on Sunday I found out my mum has breast cancer and to be honest since then it has all been a blur, she yesterday had the bone scan but now has to wait 7-10 days the results, which makes me so angry as in that time the cancer can multiply and develop further and spread, Im trying to stay positive but its so hard to stop your mind drifting off to that bad place, Im old enough to stay strong in front of her but at the end of the day shes still my mum and everyone always need their mums :( :( :(  Has anyone been known to get their scan results sooner than the anticipated 7-10 days?  Any advice from anyone who is going through the same thing will be great to hear as I feel so alone, my friends are supportive but no one actually understands or knows worry and anxiety.

  • Hi Charlotte - these things do take time but its important that they get it right.

I've had a CT scan and was sent for an ultrasound for something that had shown up.  The ultrasound was inconclusive and I went for an MRI scan.  Well that was on 9 October and I still haven't heard anything.  I must admit I rang my oncologist's secretary yesterday (or maybe the day before?) but still haven't heard back.  The waiting is awful - the best thing you can do is keep busy and keep your mind distracted with other things.  Your Mum is lucky to have such a supportive daughter.  I love my children to bits and they love me, but I'm afraid they're still too young to help me through things - I haven't even told them yet that I think my cancer has come back.  If you can do your worrying away from your Mum that will help her to cope, but your worrying is also helping you to understand how she must be feeling, so its useful too.  There's not much anybody can say to somebody in this position, but just be there, drink tea, listen.  all the best x lou

  • Thank you for your reply Lou, your right the waiting is the worst, Im sure once we have news and can start a treatment plan maybe we will be in a better place, its the worst thing the unknown, I hope you get some news soon as thats a long time you have had waiting for an answer, I understand they have to get it right but arghhh!! Thank you again for your kind message and sending best wishes your way xx
