NEW TO THIS - NOT CHATTED ONLINE BEFORE

I HAVE JUST COMPLETED TWO YEARS POST SURGERY AND TREATMENT AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED WITH LUNG CANCER. I HAD THE BOTTOM LOBE OF MY LEFT LUNG,A SMALL AMOUNT OF THE TOP LOBE, THREE RIBS AND SOME OF THE CHEST WALL REMOVED EARLY IN 2013 AND THEN WENT ON TO HAVE A COURSE OF CHEMOTHERAPY AND RADICAL RADIOTHERAPY WHICH ENDED SEPTEMBER 2013 AND I'M FEELING REALLY WELL .I'M HAVING A SCAN THIS WEEK AND IF ALL IS WELL, THEN I'LL BE GOING ON TO SIX MONTHLY CHECK UPS INSTEAD OF THREE.

ALL THE LITERATURE I READ ABOUT LUNG CANCER IS FULL OF DOOM AND GLOOM AND I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT THERE ARE SURVIVORS OUT THERE AND IT IS POSSIBLE TO LIVE A REASONABLY NORMAL LIFE WITH ONE AND A BIT LUNGS.

WHILST I WOULD ENJOY CHATTING WITH EVERYBODY, I WOULD PARTICULARLY LOVE TO HEAR FROM OTHERS THAT HAVE HAD  LUNG CANCER AS IVE NOT SPOKEN TO ANYBODY ELSE SINCE CHEMO

  • Hi Cardygirl, welcome to the forum, but sorry to hear that you have a cancer diagnosis. You have come to the right place though since everyone on this forum either has cancer themselves, or is caring for another one with it. Also, many of us on here do have lung cancer too, me being one of them, but I also have other cancers as well. Having said that, I'm still kicking now after almost 6 years since my first diagnosis. I do feel sometimes, though, that my luck is running out. I don't know how many surgeries one can have before the ball drops and no more can be done. I have lost count of the number of surgeries I have had in those six years, of course, not all on my lung. I have had two major surgeries on my right lung and am told I can't have any further surgery there. Unfortunately, that cancer is back in my lung. I also can't have any chemo for that cancer. I don't know where I go from here. I'm waiting now on another consult about that.

It sure sounds like you have had a rough road for the last few years, but you're very optimistic for the future. I certainly wish you well. In between surgeries, treatments, etc. I actually feel not too badly, and that is when I try to do some of the things I enjoy and can still do. Then when I'm not up to snuff, I just do what I have to do to get through it.

I'm sure someone else on here will respond to your post very soon. You will find the people on here are very friendly and supportive and it does help to communicate with others who are also dealing with cancer. So welcome, and I hope you find yourself among friends here.

I hope your upcoming scans will work out in your favor and that your check-ups will be every 6 months instead of every three.

Take care and good luck this week.

    Lorraine

  • Hi Cardy,

Its great to see you are well and its going good.

I was the same, when you hear cancer and go on the internet you see terrible stories, but that's just the internet, not reality.

I hope your scan goes well, its amazing someone can live a normal life with one and a bit lungs.:)
