Prostate cancer.

hi I have had prostate cancer for eight years, had radio therapy, hormone treatment, and the last year on abaraterone pills. But now they are not working, psa rising. Oncologist said the next step would be chemo. But I am not keen on this, is there any other treatments,? Thanks ged.

  • Hi Ged,

Welcome to this supportive forum. I had prostate cancer just over six years ago but luckily I have made a good recovery with my psa dropping from 70 to 0.01 after treatment with radio and hormone therapy. Now four years on it is still only 0.87 so I consider myself very lucky.

I know of someone who had chemo for his prostate cancer and surprisingly had very few side effects. As I undestand it, the chemo is tailored for each individual patient cancer.

He was put on ezembutalide tablets at a later stage. Hope this helps

Wishing you luck with your future treatment and please keep in contact, Brian.

  • I was diagnosed with prostate cancer on 17th Feb, 1999 in a North London hospital; treated with permanent brachytheraby(-surgical implantation of radioactive Iodine125 seeds and chemotherapy) in another North London hospital - Iam still alive - aged 78 - but with some undesirable adverse(-which medical doctors call side-effects) effects.

My last PSA reading(2014) was well below 0.4.

I would like to meet Dr. Rick Klausner - Chairman of The Grand Challenges Board(-about optimising cancer treatments working with scientists and "patients") - and his team withi Cancer research UK.  Please facilitate.

  • Many thanks, I am seeing my oncologist tomorrow will have a better idea then.

  • Many thanks for your reply, I am 74. I have an oncology appointment tomorrow, hope to have a better idea then,

  • I recently had bone infusion treatment (radio something!!) And since having it, just over a week ago, I am experiencing severe pain in my bones. So much so that I even find walking difficult. I am on enzalutamide and have been for around three months as my PSA had risen and it is now around 20. Painkillers have included paracetamol , tramadol and as from yesterday Morphine. Nothing seems to be effective. Has anyone on this forum experienced similar problem. Would be good hearing from you.
