Saying hello :)

Hi, my names Ben and I'm 14 with a Dad who has localised Stage III Bowel Cancer...

I just want people to know what I'm here for and just say hello because we're all pretty much in the same boat, eh? :)

Well, if you'd like to know the nitty gritty; Dads just finished his 3 month cycle of chemo and has had a urinary stent and colostomy bag fitted so far, hoping to be operated on within the next month or so and with any luck we'll have a good story to tell at the end of it! ;)

Thanks very much for reading and any of your own stories/thoughts as replies would be greatly appreciated!

Hang on in there, keep smiling with your chin held high and God bless!! :)

Ben x :)

  • Hi Ben

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

Sorry about your dad. Just to let you know there are many friendly people here who are in a similar position to you, so please come and share your thoughts and feelings anytime you feel you would like to chat.

There's a website called rip rap for people of your age who have a parent affected by cancer.

You can find it here. It could be another good place for you to find support and advice from others with similar experiences to you.

    Best wishes

    Jane

  • Hi Ben

Im sorry to hear your dad has got this disease. And I know it is as hard for you as it is for him going through this. You will be a great help in your dad getting through this because of your upbeat attitude. It will lift his spirits on those black days. Don't forget to look after yourself though, go out and do fun things with your friends without feeling guilty, keep up your usual activities and sports. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you feel you need to discuss anything, talking is good. The people on this forum may help you out, you can also talk to the McMillan nurses at your dads hospital or phone them. You can also phone the nurses here on 0808 800 4040 in confidence. I see Jane has given you a link to riprap. All the best Ben  Kim
