Mens Breast Cancer

Hi My name is Pete

I was diognosed with Breast Cancer on Friday March the 13th 2015 unlucky for some but lucky for me as Macmillian acted very quickly and I had a left mastectomy operation on the 7 April 2015 to remove all Cancer.

Which was a complete sucsess unfortuantley the following day I had a cardiac arrest so I had to have CPR Which formed a Hematoma on my chest the size of a small rugby ball. I won't go into all the details of what happend but on 22April I was taken to hospital for an emergency operation to remove the Haematoma and put a drain pipe in my chest which had not been fitted on the first operation.

September 2015

Months later I am in pain every day in my chest  I am taking Tamoxifen which give me horrible side affects and I would very much like to hear from any other men who are suffering like me I also have Lymphoedema,

  • Hi Lucie

Thank you for your email yes I have had a rough year and my partner has just had a Mini Stroke.

As far as getting better the second operation I had is still very sore and I have no feeling where the breast was as all nerve ends are severd and I still have internal bruising which takes for ever to heal BUT I am a live and I what the world to know men get breast cancer.

    Kind regards

    Pete

  • Hi Pete.  Just wanted to welcome you to the forum and say how sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I too have BC, although sadly at Stage 4 now.  I am really glad you have joined us and brought awareness that men also can get this disease.  I do hope that your pain subsides soon.

If you type in Lymphedema or Tamoxifen in the "search forum" area on the purple strip at the top of the page, you will hopefully see other threads on the subject and be able to join in on recent discussions. I had a quick look and couldn't see anything on male BC unfortunately.

I am so sorry to hear that your partner has had a stroke. What a terrible time you are both going through. I hope you have good friends and family to offer you their support.

Please come to the site whenever you need to chat and I am sending you both all the very best for a speedy recovery x

  • Hi Pete, just wanted to say hi and to say I am sorry that you are having a really tough time. I have breast cancer too but what really moved me to write is the fact that my father also had breast cancer. Note the word 'had' - I consider him to be cancer free now. Like you he had a mastectomy and then was on Tamoxifen for 5 years- All over and done now. He has survived as many do and I hope that there may be some relief to hear a good news story. Men's breast cancer is much less well publicised but it causes just as much anguish for all. I wish you the very best on your journey to healing.
