Introduction of the new kid :)

Hi everyone,

My Name is Katie and I am 19 years old.

My dad has been diagnosed with cancer of the oesophogus, liver, pancreas and bowel and it's not treatable. The doctors have said he probably has around 6 months that they can make him comfortable for.

I am an only child and he has no other family except for me and my mother, who is his ex wife and they are not on good terms so really it is just me. I'm just struggling to deal with all of this at such a young age and no one around me understands my situation enough to be able to be much support or help, everyone asks a lot of questions to try and understand. Which is why I have come here, to be part of a community with people who do understand.

  • Hi Katie

Just wanted to welcome  you to the forum though sorry that its your Dad's illness that brings you her.  My huband had a different incurable cancer but the diagnosis comes as a great shock and takes time for things to sink in and I am not sure there is a right or wrong way to cope(it was a case of day to day with me and our two adults kids).  This forum became a place for me to share my feelings knowing that others on similar journies would understand. There is also a web site called Rip Rapp (?sp) which is aimed at young people whose parents have a cancer diagnosis which may also offer you somewhere to chat with others in a similar age group.  Hopefully others will be along shortly to have a chat. • Hello, Katie, I am so sorry to read of your dad's cancer.  I am sure you are devastated and even more so with few people to talk to.  Have you been in touch with the Macmillan nurses - I am sure they will help you or ask at your dad's hospital if there is any help locally.  It's always good to talk.  We are always here so please come and chat anytime.
