First post to the forum

Hello everyone...

My name is Lena, I'm 19 years old and a few weeks ago my brother and I got told the worst news possible. Our Dad has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. It's one of those situations that affects millions of people but you never think you or a close family relative will receive this news.

It's going to be a hard few months ahead, as we are unsure at this stage of how long he has left, but he is doing very well and responding well to the chemotherapy and radiotherapy he's received twice a day for the last three weeks.

I would love to get involved in more projects to help support those battling cancer and their families and hear more about everyone's stories so we can support each other through such difficult times.

Let's bring forward the day that all cancers can be cured.

  • Hi Lena

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I hope that you will find this a supportive and helpful space to come and talk to others in the months ahead.

It's good that your dad is responding well to treatment and that he has such a caring daughter.

    Best wishes to you,

    Jane

  • Hi Lena,

I am sorry to read about your dad's cancer. It is so hard when someone we love is diagnosed with cancer as I know all to well. This is a great site to belong to; I have been a member since 2012. Often a few words on here can help support someone through their cancer journey. I believe we can all use our experiance of cancer whither good or bad to help others. Being a member on here at times to me feels like bieng part of a large extended family and I hope you soon feel the same.

Wishing you and your family all the best and please stay in contact so that we may be able to help you for it's not always easy to talk to family about our inner fears and feelings, Brian.

  • Welcome to the forum Lena though sorry for the reason that brings  you here.  I joined when my husband was diagnosed as it gave me somewhere to chat. ask for advice and received wonderful support.

It is good to read that your Dad is responding well to his current treatment programme and you are showing that  you are a very caring daughter despite the hard news you and your brother have to deal with. I hope  you will find the forum a good place to write your feelings as and when  you need to share your thoughts. Regards  Jules54
