Watch and wait worried

Hi I have cancer for the second time in my life first was over 34 years ago when I recovered fully from. Lymphoma I have now got acinic cell carcinoma. Had surgery to remove my parotid gland but margins proved to be not sufficient. Further surgery would mean losing a large part of my face and facial nerve which is very scary.. Has anybody gone through this? I know my new cancer is rare so may not be many people out there.

Anyway I have decided to opt for a fairly, radical watch and wait option which again is very scary territory. Has anybody done this?

I remain positive if not scared.

X

Hi and welcome to the forum.  I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis and hope there is someone here who can relate to your specific type of cancer.  Can I suggest that you call the nurses on the site on the freephone number shown at the bottom of the page - they will have access to any information which may help you.  Also, if you press the 'search forum' button on the blue strip at the top of the CancerChat page and type in Acinic Cell Carcinoma you will be able to see any previous threads pertaining to ACC.   Wish I could be of more help but I wish you all the very best and can empathise with how difficult you must be finding this new situation. Always here for a chat if you need one x

  • Hi I wondered how you have got on in the last 2 years.

i have just been diagnosed with acinic cell carcinoma. I had a tumour removed before knowing it was cancer & the scans post surgery show a small lump.

so is the lump cancer ? A cyst ? A small pocket of saliva ?

They offered me more surgery like you but the risks are so great and I would be gutted to lose so much of my facial nerve for saliva ! Obviously if it grows I will have no option but I am considering the watch and wait option - as you say it is slow growing. I am unsure if I could just get on with my life and wondered if you did ?
