losing my dad

Hi I just joined today, my dad is 62 and was diagnosed with primary liver cancer 3 weeks ago. (Although GPs letter says something different I have asked nurses about) he was told it's too advanced for treatment and now has palative care. He is home with my mum and I am going over everyday to help. He has lost so much weight but won't eat anything, the pills he is on make him confused which is upsetting as he is a very clever man.

I don't know what's going to happen and im worried about my mum who has arthritis and is disabled herself, she says they only need a carer first thing to help him shower but she admits she isn't sleeping as she has to keep checking on my dad. He gets up.in the middle of nigt confused but he is so weak he falls and can't get up. He has oral thrush again and his abdomin is due to be drained again tuesday. He was only really poorly a few weeks before diagnosis and it all feels so fast.

  • Hi Clair,

Sorry to read about your dad and his diagnosis. I am in a similar situation at the moment. My dad lives in Canada while I live in the south of England. He has just turned 93 and not onle had his prostate cancer come back but he has heart and blood problems plus a bowel infection. So I have a good idea how you are feeling.

It must be even worse for you as your dad is so much younger and things have happened so fast.

I wish you all the best, sending kinds thoughts to you and your family and please keep in contact for it helps to talk, Brian.

  • Thankyou for replying and for he kind words, we are in the south west as well.

I'm sorry for your dad it must be difficult wih him being so far away? I'm hoping that once they drain the fluid from his abdomin he perks up again, OT atleast has a break from the pain
