breast cancer and brca2

Hello all,

I am new to this site and my reason for joining is to seek support for myself and to maybe offer support to others.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last July. Initially it was a grade 2 but after surgery it turned out to be a grade 3 aggressive tumour, with strong indications the cancer had entered my body via the lymphatic system itself as opposed to the nodes. That required chemotherapy. At that time I also tested positive to the BRCA2 gene.  Meaning a double mastectomy and removal of ovaries and Fallopian tubes. Treatment is almost complete now, but my mental recovery is only just beginning. Treatment was awful, with lots of side affects. A very rough year.

Be good to hear from anyone who has similar experience to me or just to chat.

Jen

  • Hi I am also new to this site ... Recently biopsy result of high grade DCIS with comedo pathology report. Father had masectomy and 3 aunts died from breast cancer in 30/40 s as well as paternal grandmother and great grandmother. Also cousin 20"s paternal side diagnosed with BC.  I am premenopausal and my risks I have been told are high. Facing some hard decisions and terrified of all options I face.  How are you coping ?

  • Hi Feebee,

Gosh you have suffered some losses eh. Are you going to be tested for the BRCA gene? What is DCIS? I am doing ok, still very sore and subsequently in some discomfort/pain at times, but all seems to be healing quite well. Mentally I feel all over the place, so much has happened over the past year. But engaging with people like yourself is really helping me, so thank you for replying. I look forward to hearing from you again. Jen
