Prostate cancer pain

My husband is no longer receiving treatment for his disease as they have stopped working. I am now watching him dealing with the most terrible pain and I feel helpless. He has started to try ketamine but as yet there is little relief from the wicked pain he is suffering. Has anyone had this experience and could suggest ways to support/deal/manage this phase of the disease.

  • Hi,

In these modern time, there should be no need for anyone to suffer pain like you describe your husband is going through. If the hospital cant help with pain medication, I would ask if they would refer your husband to a hospice. Most people think these places are for end of life scenario but as I found with my mother when the hospital couldnt help, the hospice was able to help cure the pain she was suffering quite quickly. It's wirth a try. Please let us know how you get on. Sending best wishes and kind thoughts, Brian

  • Hi.

Thank you for the reply. I am affraid to say it but he is in a palliative care unit already with the aim of getting this under control. He was admitted on Tuesday . He is now sobbing with the pain but as yet no relief is being found. I feel so angry that he is suffering so much.

Are we expecting too  much? It might be that with his condition of advanced  prostate cancer twith mets in his bone and in paricular in the pelvic area that the pain is not going to be controlled.

It would be amazing to know he might be able to get onat least an even keel for a period of time .

Not feeling positive in anyway at the moment.
