New to this

Hi. Had my lumpectomy and lymph nodes taken June 1st. Dressings off now but really uncomfy and sore. The diagnosis was totally out of blue and steam train not hit yet. I know it will as long time to wait for results. Anybody any idea when I can go bra less?  Worn it 24/7 since op. Only a 34c so not got much but need a break!

  • Hi Julie and welcome to this site, there are lots of lovely folk here who have been through this and we totally understand the emotional roller coaster, as well as the physical pain. I am the same size as you and, for unrelated reasons, was not able to wear a bra at all after my surgery. I wore stretchy t-shirts instead which gave some support and I was careful not to lift stuff or make sudden movements, that worked ok for me. I found sitting in a warm bath helped a lot too and I slept propped up rather than lying flat. It takes time for the bruising and soreness to wear off but keep taking the pain relief as and when you need to and you will get there. Do you have a date yet for your results? Hopefully it is not far off now and I wish you all the best. Do let us know how you get on.  Take care  Sue xx

  • Hi Sue

Lovely to hear from you and thank you for the advice. I am wearing t shirt bras but because of gravitational bruising and site of wound even they irritate. I know things will get better but taking it easy is not me as I live my life usually at 100mph. Like you I'm trying to avoid lifting and sudden movements but I have to keep going and sitting down after the simplest of things. Very hard and alien to me. I get my results July 2nd. Any advice on deodrant? I can't stand not wearing any as feel unclean. Thank you. Take care.

  • Hi Julie, Really glad to help, I know it's difficult to work out the best way to deal with stuff when, as you say, you usually run around like a mad thing! It does get easier though and you just have to try and pace yourself as best you can. I use Vaseline aloe senstive roll-on deoderant but any non-perfumed roll on would probably do the trick and I use the Simple range of bath/shower stuff. I was advised to use an electric shaver once things had healed a bit but found it a tad tricky so reverted back to a razor pretty quickly (& carefully!) Hope you continue to heal well and do keep in touch. As I say, I am happy to help. Take care  Sue xx
